Graham
George Graham is known as "the father of the chronograph", and was a member of the Royal Society. Born July 7, 1673, in Kirklinton, Cumberland, he is known for inventing the first stop watch, the dead beat escapement in 1715 and inventing the mercury pendulum. George Graham, also known as "honest George", built the master clock for Greenwich Royal Observatory.
In 1751, Graham died and was buried in a tomb located in Westminster Abbey where his friend and mentor, Thomas Tompion, was buried.
