Glashutte Original
Glashutte, Germany is historically known as the birthplace of German watchmaking. Glashutte Original began in 1845, when the original watchmakers of Glashutte created the world reknown reputation Glashutte still holds today for making superb timepieces.
During the end of WWII, Glashutte was bombed and many of the watch factories were obliterated. In 1951, the watch companies still in production, joined together to form VEB Glashutter Uhrenbetriebe in East Germany. In 1990, East and West Germany reunited and the VEB Glashutte became the Glashutter Uhrenbetrieb GmbH.
There is no one founder of Glashutte Original; instead the company is the child of the collective master watchmakers of Glashutte, Germany, who formed an alliance to keep the reputation and high standards of the region intact. Today, Glashutte Original is owned by the Swatch Group.
