The Rolex Oyster-Perpetual Sky-Dweller

The universal complaint I have heard since getting into the watch industry about Rolex is they do not make complicated timepieces. Rolex, excluding the GMT it originally made for PanAm pilots, has made innovations in practicality but not necessarily in complications. The Rolex Sky Dweller now puts Rolex in the complication category.

The Rolex Sky Dweller was released recently at Baselworld 2012. The timepiece is not only aesthetically pleasing, but it is a complicated timepiece as well. It is an annual calendar watch and the months change along side the numerals. The Rolex Sky Dweller can tell time in multiple time zones. The sub dial sets to your home time while the dial sets to your current location time. The Sky-Dweller comes with the calibre 9001. Innovation is apparent with the ring command bezel’s ability to quick set the functions.

Below is a brief tutorial.

Listen to what Roger Federer and Tiger Woods had to say about the Rolex Sky Dweller.

  1. Depends on which 007 film and which scene. Pierce Brosnan strictly wears the SMP in all his mvoies. In Casino Royale, Daniel Craig starts with the Planet Ocean and later wears the SMP after he gets 00 status. But I think he has the PO again in Quantum of Solace.
